Perennials

Cassia
Cassia can be a delight in the fall landscape because it is covered with cheerful yellow flowers when few other plants are blooming. Plus, cassia provides interesting foliage during other times of the year. Another benefit of cassia plants is that they serve as larval host plants for three types of Florida butterflies; cloudless sulphur, sleepy orange, and orange-barred sulphur.
Milkweed Butterfly
Milkweed is an excellent butterfly attracting plant, but usually requires full sun.
Bulbine
Bulbine has become a popular plant in Florida because it is drought tolerant, grows well in poor soils, and blooms repeatedly with cheerful flowers that are yellow or orange, depending on the variety. It is suited for gardens in USDA Zones 9-11 and is hardy to the low 20s. It makes a great ground cover since each plant will grow over time to form a clump that can reach up to four feet wide.
Lavender Verbena
Lavender Verbena plant has large, lavender flowers and is surrounded by broad, green leaves. It has a vigorous and semi-trailing habit and goes great in hanging baskets and planters.
Heather
This compact, one to two foot, low branching, dense plant is ideal for ground cover use or as an edging. The arching stems are covered by finely-textured leaves which are less than two inches long. Depending on the cultivar, small flowers are purple, pink, or white and bloom much of the year.
